Why Set A Fitness Goal ?

If you want to change the way that your body looks you need to have a goal. Goals are necessary in order to come up with a plan of attack, without a clear goal you will no doubt waste time with the program or routine, that will leave you spinning your wheels and getting nowhere. You may want to get into shape, to simply feel better, or you may want to take it to the next level and develop a head turning physique.

Regardless of how big or small your goal is, you must first recognize and set that goal. This is a necessary step in order to fully understand what you have to do to achieve it. Most people spend too much time doing the wrong thing, or not following the correct path to accomplish their goals. Just like sports specific training, there is goal specific training. If a sprinter trains the way a marathon runner does the sprinter will become a worse sprinter not a better one. If you are doing the wrong type of exercise or eating the wrong way for your goal you will never reach it. This is Where #teamtna will help you layout the plan of attack to achieve your goal.

How Important Is Achieving Your Goal ?

Are you willing to go to the gym even when its miserable outside and you have had a terrible day at work ? Are you willing to watch what you eat and put temptation aside for as long as it takes? Are you willing to stay home and rest your fatigued body when friends are asking you to go out and party? Well, are you? If you REALLY want it, you will sacrifice whatever you have to in order to reach your goals. The people who are successful in changing their bodies for the better work hard at it. There is no easy way. You must sacrifice and your goal and end result must be more important to you than any temptation or distraction you encounter. You must take into account many factors when looking at your fitness goal. Factors like:

  • How many days a week am I willing to workout?
  • What type of lifestyle do I want to maintain?
  • Are my expectations realistic?
  • What is my timeline?
  • Do I REALLY want it?

Basically it all boils down to how much you are willing to sacrifice for this goal. Only the lucky few walk around in great shape without sacrificing for it. Some people have won the genetic lottery and can eat whatever they want and don’t exercise but look great. Most people are not so lucky and have to sacrifice on some level (time, money, comfort) to achieve the look they want. Make no mistake, if you want to change your level of health or the shape of your body you will have to sacrifice something. Your present lifestyle has got you where you are today and you have will to change it. The more extreme you want your body image the more extreme your sacrifices are going to be.

Long Term Vs. Short Term Fitness Goals

Some of us are just more deadline-driven than others and by giving yourself a specific point at which you’ll have to prove your stuff (beyond looking fit in the photos), you’ll be that much more motivated to keep up with your training. Setting goals is important, but did you realize that there are both short-term and long-term fitness goals ? While they are different, each one is important in its own right, and both will go a long way toward helping you achieve the body, fitness level and overall health you desire.

Short-Term Goals:

Goals that achievable in a shorter amount of time. These are considered short-term goals because they are more quickly attained. Some examples of short-term goals could be:

  • Lower your body fat percentage / recomposition
  • Hit a specific weight, in a given amount of time
  • Reach a strength goal / Get stronger
  • Make fitness a part of your routine
  • Prepare for a photo shoot
  • Lose 10 – 20 pounds
Long-Term Goals:

Often take more time, more perseverance and more willpower to achieve. They are equally important, however, and shouldn’t be ignored if you want to make continued progress. Some examples of long-term goals could be:

  • Lowering your BMI / cholesterol
  • Physique contest prep
  • Lose 50 – 100+ pounds
  • Train for an event

While there’s no such thing as a bad goal, having more specific intentions can be even more powerful, especially when you can measure that progress along the way. Everyone needs to have a short term and long term fitness goal to ensure continued progress. We have worked with all types of people from 500+lbs morbidly obese to top fitness models and competitors.
