President Trump contracts Covid-19…

Friday morning on Twitter, president Trump announced that he and the first lady, Melania Trump, tested positive for the corona virus. Whether you love him or hate him is your own personal preference… and i wont get into that here. After all, this is a fitness site. I just found it interesting, when the doctors announced what supplement support regiment he was taking, to help combat the virus. The statement released today by the president’s physician said that in addition to the antibodies, Trump “has been taking zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and a daily aspirin. Feel free to click on the ad below each listed supplement and make a purchase from our store. Zinc

Clinical studies showed that zinc significantly shortens the duration of symptoms during viral infections. New research suggests that zinc helps control infections by gently “tapping the brakes” on the immune response in a way that prevents out-of-control inflammation that can be damaging and even deadly.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency has been known to play a role in respiratory infections and illnesses and is connected to pneumonia, tuberculosis and bronchiolitis, according to the World Health Organization. Also, those lacking vitamin d showed increased risk of death from COVID 19 at the beginning stages of the pandemic. It is important to note, however, that higher temperatures and UV radiation may negatively affect the virus’s survival, contributing to these results.

Pepcid AC / Famotidine

Doctors first became interested in famotidine after hearing reports that people in China who took the drug for heartburn were surviving COVID-19, while other people who essentially had the same risk factors but were taking different heartburn drugs like cimetidine or omeprazole (sold in the US as Tagamet and Prilosec, respectively) were dying from the disease. Perhaps famotidine was somehow bolstering these patients and improving their chances for survival. Patients who got famotidine fared better. According to the study, they were far less likely to die or require a ventilator. A twofold decrease in risk than those not receiving the drug. Some speculate the drug suppresses the histamine response of the body. There are currently clinical trial being conducted.

Melatonin

There are indications that melatonin may reduce the severity of the disease, and the overblown immune response and subsequent severe damage to the lungs that is present in the virus’ most critically ill patients.Melatonin, of course, is best known as a sleep regulator. But melatonin also plays an important role in regulating the immune system. One way it does so is by influencing the production of small proteins known as cytokines, which act as signalers from the immune system to cells around the body. Cytokines can be inflammation producing (pro-inflammatory cytokines) or inflammation restricting (anti-inflammatory cytokines). Melatonin has been shown to reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Melatonin also is well known to be an antioxidant, neutralizing free radical cells and limiting oxidative stress and damage, which contribute inflammation.

Asprin

Because the rate of blood clotting is so high, all people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 should receive a low dose of blood thinner medication to prevent blood clots. Aspirin is a well known blood thinner and commonly prescribed to people who are at high risk of strokes or heart attacks. There are now studies underway examining if aspirin can reduce risk of blood clotting in people with COVID-19.
