Recommended Diet Enhancements

Green Tea Extract / EGCG

Green tea (or EGCG) is made from the Camellia sinensis plant. The dried leaves and leaf buds of Camellia sinensis are used to produce various types of teas. As a drink or supplement / extract, it is a great “fat mobilizer”. Releasing fats (lipids) into the blood stream to be burned (hyperlipidemia). Also used by individuals with high levels of cholesterol or high blood pressure, to prevent heart disease. It also helps to prevent cancer of the lining of the uterus (endometrial cancer). Green tea contains important molecules called polyphenols, which seem to be responsible for many of the benefits of green tea. Polyphenols may prevent inflammation / swelling, protect cartilage between the bones and lessen joint degeneration. They also seem to be able to fight human papilloma virus (HPV) infections and reduce the growth of abnormal cells in the cervix (cervical dysplasia). Green tea contains 2% to 4% caffeine, which affects thinking and alertness, increases urine output and may improve the function of brain messengers important in Parkinson’s disease. Antioxidants and other substances in green tea may also help protect the heart and blood vessels.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar comes in a liquid or pill form, is a popular home remedy and has been used for centuries. It has various healthful properties, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Evidence suggests it offers health benefits, such as aiding weight loss, reducing cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels and improving the symptoms of diabetes. Apple cider vinegar can help kill pathogens, including bacteria. People have traditionally used Apple cider vinegar for cleaning and disinfecting, treating nail fungus, lice, warts, and ear infections. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, used vinegar to clean wounds more than 2,000 years ago. Apple cider vinegar is also a food preservative and studies show that it inhibits bacteria like E. coli from growing in and spoiling food. Reports also suggest that diluted apple cider vinegar could help with acne when applied to the skin. To date, one of the most convincing applications of vinegar is helping treat type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by high blood sugar levels caused by insulin resistance or the inability to produce insulin. Studies suggests Apple cider vinegar may improve insulin sensitivity by 19–34% during a high carb meal and significantly lower blood sugar and insulin response. Thus preventing fat storage / weight gain. Numerous other studies in humans show that Apple cider vinegar can improve insulin function and lower blood sugar levels after meals. Apple cider vinegar has shown great promise in improving insulin sensitivity and helping lower blood sugar responses after meals.

Probiotics
Probiotics are living microorganisms that boost health when consumed in adequate amounts. There are many different types, and you can obtain them from foods or supplements. Most of the bacteria in your body reside in your gut and the majority are quite harmless. Having the right gut bacteria is linked to numerous health benefits, including weight loss, improved digestion, enhanced immune function, healthier skin and a reduced risk of many diseases. Probiotics, which are a certain type of friendly bacteria, provide health benefits when ingested. They are often taken as supplements that are supposed to colonize your gut with health-boosting microorganisms. Probiotic foods include yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh and kimchi. Probiotics should not be confused with prebiotics, which are dietary fibers that help feed the friendly bacteria already in your gut.
Caffeine / Black Coffee

Can coffee really help you lose weight ?.. Coffee contains caffeine, which is the main stimulant in coffee and is the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance in the world. Caffeine is also included in most commercial fat-burning supplements today and for good reason. It is one of the few substances known to help mobilize fats from your fat tissues and increase metabolism. Many biologically active substances found in coffee beans find their way into the final drink. Caffeine works by blocking an inhibitory neurotransmitter called adenosine, increasing the firing of neurons and release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine. This, in turn, makes you feel more energized and awake. In this way, coffee helps you stay active when you would otherwise feel tired. In fact, it may improve exercise performance by 11–12%, on average. Coffee can also help mobilize fat from fat tissue and stimulate the nervous system. This sends a direct signals to the fat cells, telling them to break down fat. It does this by increasing blood levels of the hormone epinephrine. Epinephrine, known as adrenaline releases fatty acids into your bloodstream. Another complementary strategy is to take fat-burning supplements such as caffeine pills. The recommended dose is 200 mg to 300 mg before a workout.

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium is a form of fiber made from the husks of the Plantago ovata plant’s seeds. It sometimes goes by the name ispaghula. It is most commonly known as a laxative. This means it soaks up water in your gut and makes bowel movements much easier and can help promote regularity without increasing flatulence. It can be used as a one-off to ease constipation, or it can be added to your diet to help promote regularity and overall digestive health. Maintaining a healthy weight is a concern for many people, especially those with a chronic condition like diabetes. Besides being good for your heart and blood sugar levels, psyllium may help you lose weight. Because psyllium absorbs liquid in your body, it can help give you a feeling of being full. This can help you control the amount of food you eat. Talk to your doctor about the possibility of taking psyllium if they’ve suggested that you lose weight. However, research shows that taking psyllium is beneficial to many parts of the human body, including the heart and the pancreas. People with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Crohn’s disease are all too familiar with bowel irregularity. The results of studies on psyllium’s effectiveness in treating these conditions are still mixed. Psyllium is also a prebiotic. A healthy colony of good bacteria in the digestive system is essential for healthy immune function. Your body is better able to fight infection, reduce inflammation, and maintain healthy tissue and cells. One study shows that at least six weeks of daily psyllium intake is an effective way for people who are obese or overweight to lower their cholesterol with very few side effects. If you’ve been told that you need to watch your cholesterol, ask your doctor if adding psyllium to a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet will help you. Numerous studies have shown that fiber like psyllium, taken as part of a healthy diet, can help lower a person’s risk of heart disease. Psyllium can affect your heart by lowering blood pressure, improving lipid levels, and strengthening heart muscle.
